2027: Karimi Hails Tinubu Over N128bn Kogi, Kwara, Ekiti Road Approvals

Chairman of the Senate Committee on Services, Senator Sunday Steve Karimi, has poured encomiums on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu following the Federal Executive Council’s (FEC) approval for the total rehabilitation of two major, long-neglected federal roads linking Kogi State to Kwara and Ekiti states.

Karimi, who represents the people of Kogi West Senatorial District, described the development as a “massive milestone” that proves the Tinubu administration is listening to the cries of the masses.

The major road networks—the Obajana-Kabba-Isanlu-Egbe-Omu Aran-Ilorin road and the Kabba-Ifaki-Ado Ekiti road were among the 27 critical highway projects greenlit during the FEC meeting chaired by the President on Monday, June 29, 2026.

Out of the Federal Government’s massive N3.9 trillion nationwide infrastructure intervention, a whopping N104 billion was approved for Sections One and Two of the Kogi-Kwara road, while N24.7 billion was earmarked to fix the Kabba-Ifaki-Ado Ekiti axis.

Speaking during an interactive session with political heavyweights and stakeholders from the seven local government areas of Kogi West, Senator Karimi noted that commuters had suffered untold hardship on the affected routes for too long.

According to him, the Obajana-Kabba-Isanlu-Egbe-Omu Aran-Ilorin road had been completely abandoned by previous administrations, despite its strategic importance as a major gateway connecting the South-West to the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and the North.

“Our people have suffered for years on these roads. Motorists have endured endless gridlocks, lost precious man-hours, and spent fortunes fixing broken-down vehicles due to the terrible potholes,” Karimi lamented.

He added that the Kabba-Ifaki-Ado Ekiti road is another critical economic artery linking Kogi, Ekiti, Osun, and Kwara states. He expressed confidence that once the contractors hit the site, economic activities in the region would bounce back in full swing.

Beyond boosting trade, the lawmaker emphasized that fixing the dilapidated roads would deal a heavy blow to insecurity in the area.

“Bad roads are a hiding place for criminals. By fixing these craters, we are making the highways safer and putting an end to the antics of hoodlums who exploit bad spots to terrorize travelers,” he stated.

The Kogi lawmaker used the opportunity to express profound gratitude to the Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, for refusing to sit on the matter and for yielding to his relentless presentations and appeals on behalf of the Kogi West electorate.

He further lauded Nigerians for standing solidly behind the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda, noting that the visible infrastructure projects springing up across the country are proof that the government is working.

Looking ahead to the upcoming political season, Senator Karimi boldly charged his constituents and Nigerians at large to queue behind President Tinubu for a second term in the 2027 presidential election.

He argued that the administration’s bold economic reforms, aggressive infrastructure drive, and the steady rise in the nation’s foreign reserves are clear indicators that Nigeria is finally on the right path to sustainable growth.

“President Tinubu has shown capacity. He has shown he loves the people. The only way to ensure these massive developmental strides continue uninterrupted is to support him all the way to 2027,” Karimi declared.
