The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ijumu Local Government Area of Kogi State was thrown into mourning on Friday following the sudden death of its local government chairman, Oyewole Mayowa Solomon.
Solomon reportedly slumped during an intra-party reconciliation meeting held at the Iyara Town Hall, the local government headquarters.
Eyewitnesses said the party chairman was actively participating in the session when he suddenly collapsed. He was rushed to a hospital in neighboring Kabba, where he was confirmed dead shortly after arrival.
The meeting was convened by a former Ijumu LGA chairman, Funsho Olumoko, to resolve internal friction and unite party leadership, ward executives, and stakeholders across Ijumu’s 15 wards ahead of upcoming political activities.
The tragedy comes two weeks after a previous stakeholders’ meeting in Iyara highlighted leadership divisions within the local chapter, despite members agreeing to endorse President Bola Tinubu and Kogi State Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo for second terms.
Party leaders present at the venue were left in shock as the gathering ended abruptly. Official statements from the state party leadership regarding funeral arrangements and the incident are awaited.
