‘We Have Been Considerate Neigbours for Years,’ Says Kogi West Governorship Advocacy Group 

– Seeks support for equity, fairness, justice

Stakeholders drawn from across the seven local government areas of Kogi West Senatorial District, have announced the formation of an advocacy group, “Kogi West Governorship Advocacy Group” to ensure the district produces the next governor of the state.



In a a press statement made available over the weekend and duly signed by the interim Chairman, Secretary and Spokesperson for the group, Chief Aiyemowa Jeremiah, Alhaji Idris Koto and Comrade David Owa respectively, they said the people of Kogi West truly deserve the governorship seat of the confluence state.

The political group shall drive mobilization, strategy and awareness creation towards the realization of the project; to ensure a westerner emerge Governor after over thirty years of creation of the state.

“Having being considerate neighbours over the last three decades, the loving and corporative senatorial zone are of a strong opinion and demand that the zone is allowed to produce the next Governor of Kogi state, being the only senatorial zone yet to be privileged to produce a democratically elected Governor since the creation of the state despite her human, natural and political contributions the zone have made to the state in the last thirty years of its coexistence and last twenty five years of uninterrupted democratic experience in the state.”

The group argued that only fairness, justice and equity especially in sensitive sectors that have tendencies to either unite or further divide the people as a state with common fate and destiny, can move the state forward.

 

According to the statement, the group noted that the demand is not violent or confrontational, but a gentle, friendly and conscience driven political and moral engagement that will fasten the wheel of progress and engender trust.

They itemized the objectives of the forum as demands for patriotic, fair, equitable and moral distribution of of human and material resources of the state across the three senatorial districts, especially in the governorship seat.

The group said it will address a world press conference in the days ahead to tell their story to the public, to announce their demand and seek the support and cooperation of even friends of the states to impress it on their neighbors and fellow Kogites in the east and central senatorial districts of the state to see it from the angle of morality, fairness, sincerity and patriotism.

The group said it is time for the people of Kogi state to work as one, live as one and collectively choose a leadership style that is anchored on fairness, equity and justice for the good of the state.

„The state may have been embroiled in ethnic animosity, religious politics, tribal consideration and all sorts of negative political machinations that have held the state down created ethnic suspicion for three decades, but it’s time to rise above our challenges and differences and bequeath a united and prosperous state to the coming generation and this can only be achieved if the other zones allow a Kogi West person to emerge as Governor in the next governorship election.

“The state cannot experience meaningful development and peace if all the three senatorial districts are not equally given opportunity to rule the state,” they said.

The group called on traditional rulers, religious leaders, opinion moulders and all well meaning people of Kogi state to rise up to this challenge for the future of the state.

The group announced that after her world press conference, it will begin a tour of the twenty-one LGAs of the state to interface with all relevant stakeholders to drive home the desire and demand of the new generation for collective prosperity of the state.



They also promised to visit political parties leadership at the state level as well as the aspirants contesting from Kogi West.
