Update: Road Safety Confirms 16 Dead in Osara Road Crash

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has confirmed at least 16 people dead in a fatal road crash in Osara, along the Okene-Lokoja road in Kogi State.

The accident occurred in the early hours of Friday when an 18-seater passenger bus reportedly veered off a bridge, plunging to the ground.

The State Sector Commander of the FRSC, Lawal Fagge, confirmed the incident during a telephone interview.

He said only two passengers survived the crash but sustained serious injuries and are currently receiving treatment at a nearby hospital.

According to him, FRSC rescue teams from the Zariagi Unit were quickly deployed to the scene to evacuate victims and clear the wreckage.

Fagge attributed the crash to excessive speeding.

He added that the bodies of the deceased have been deposited at a morgue in Lokoja.

The incident has renewed concerns over dangerous driving habits on Nigerian highways, with authorities again urging motorists to obey speed limits and safety rules.
