The Kogi State Police Command has deployed its tactical and operational teams as well as intelligence operatives to go after two fleeing notorious suspects who mysteriously escaped from Police cell in Egume, Dekina local government area of the state.
The outgoing Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Idrisu Dabban, who disclosed this in a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP William in Lokoja said the state command has commenced investigation to unravel the mystery behind the incident.
An alleged kidnapper who recently killed his victim and was transferred from Lokoja to a police station in Egume and an electrical vandal were reported to have allegedly escaped from the Police cell on new year’s eve.
Another, a vandal who specialises in vandalizing NEPA cable and thunder copper protectors and the kidnapper conspired and beat all the security outfits of the police to escape from the cell on this fateful day.
But the Commissioner of Police, while condemning the incident, ordered that the officer on duty be detained and is currently undergoing orderly room trial.
The Command assured the public of its level of determination in synergy with other security agencies to consolidate on the last year’s achievements and equally adopt new measures of tackling security challenges in the year 2022 and beyond.
Members of the public are enjoined to continue to partner with the Police and other security agencies by way of providing credible information on the activities of criminal elements in the State.
The Security Chairman of the area, Hon. Gowon Omale had frowned at the suspected foul play in the entire exercise, saying that the officer at the gate was not there as at the time other officers were shouting for a closure of the gate when it was noticed that criminals were on rampage.
Omale said he suspected a foul play among the two Police inspectors, Yunusa and Atabor who allegedly conspired with the escapees.
Omale who condemned the laxity of the police stressed that the acclaimed synergy between the Police and other security agencies in curbing criminality in the society may not be achieved under this situation.
