Kogi Central Senate Hopeful, Abubakar Ohere Wins 2022 Built Environment Distinguished Personality

The Kogi Central Senatorial candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Engr. Abubakar Ohere, has emerged winner of the 2022 Kogi Built Environment Distinguished Personality Awards.

The former State Commissioner for Works and Housing, floored several other nominees to clinch the most coveted award of the 2022 Kogi Built Environment Distinguished Personality organized by the Kogi Built Environment and Building Materials Exhibition (BEBM).

The BEBM is also an annual conversation for manufacturers and the end users of building materials with a view to bringing about proper use and management of human, environment and natural resources in the building industry, provides forum for exchanging of ideas by trades men and women professionals in the built environment and its stakeholders.

The 2022 edition of the award ceremony, themed “Building Smart Environment Using Made in Nigeria Building Materials,” has been slated to hold from 6th to 8th December at Idrinana Hotels, Lokoja.

Announcing the award, the Director of BEBM Exhibitions Special Project Directorate, Mr. Ogbanago Anuwe Monday stated that the achievements of the APC candidate during his time in the Works and Housing Ministry, earned him the award.

“As Commissioner for Works and Housing, Kogi State under Engr Ohere witnessed outstanding infrastructure development in all sphares across the State. This can be seen in the first ever Flyover Ganaja bridge, Muhammadu Buhari Civic Centre, GYB Model Science Secondary Schools, CUSTECH Osara. Also is the massive repositioning of Health institutions as can be witnessed in the Reference Hospital, Okene, Specialist Hospital Lokoja, the Hospital in Gegu Beki, Ajaokuta, Idah, Isanlu and several others scattered in the State.

“Similarly, roads in the three Senatorial District, the Lokoja Embarkment and several other projects handled by the State Ministry of Works under the supervision of Engr Ohere remains a watershed, marked him out for the prestigious BEBM Exhibition Award.

“Engr. Ohere holds a Master Degree in Mining Engineering (M. Eng); Surface Mining Engineering Option from the Federal University of Technology, Akure.

“Engr. Ohere, is a prolific researcher has attended several workshops in the United States, Poland, Ghana, Australia, China and Nigeria.

“Engineer Ohere has equally presented many scholarly and well-researched papers in different fora. These includes: Feasibility Study Report on the technical requirements/cost for the setting up of a small scale sized Mining and granite quarrying ( capacity 80 -120 tons per hour) in Nigeria, presented to the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria ( COREN ) at Merit House, Abuja in 2013.

“Earlier in 2012, Engineer Ohere presented a paper in Perth Australia titled “Nigeria Mineral Potential and Coal Resources Development” and several others.

“He is a registered member of professional bodies like Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigerian (COREN), R.27,382, Council of Nigerian Mining Engineers and Geoscientists (COMEG) GEM00082, Corporate Member Nigerian Society of Mining Engineers (NSME). M-20150534, Corporate Member Nigerian Mining and Geosciences Society (NMGS) C-06-3156 and Corporate Member, International Society of Explosive Engineers (ISEE), 2014.

“Engr. Abubakar Ohere secured pensionable appointment with the Ministry of Solid Minerals Development shortly after the mandatory National Youth Service Corps in 1993.”
