Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, has administered the oath of office to the newly elected chairmen of the 21 local government areas, directing them to bolster rural security networks, manage public funds prudently, and prioritize grassroots infrastructure development.
Governor Ododo gave the charge on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, through his Deputy, Comrade Joel Salifu, during the swearing-in ceremony held at the Glass House, Government House, Lokoja.
The governor directed the council bosses to work closely with security agencies, traditional rulers, and community structures to protect lives and property, asserting that no part of the state would be left vulnerable to criminal activity.
He urged the newly inaugurated chairmen to focus on rural access roads, primary healthcare, basic education, environmental sanitation, and sustainable empowerment programs for youths and women.
Congratulating the local government executives, Ododo commended the electorate for voting overwhelmingly for the All Progressives Congress (APC), which won all 21 chairmanship positions and 239 councillorship seats across the state during the October 17 local council elections.
He described the electoral outcome as a mandate for heightened responsibility, urging the officials to maintain inclusive governance without political bias.
Ododo reaffirmed Kogi State’s continued support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration under the Renewed Hope Agenda and assured the council chairmen of state executive backing to accelerate rural transformation across all local government councils.
