The Kogi State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has secured a five-year prison sentence against one Mr. Akoji Jonah for vandalizing critical electricity infrastructure.
The judgment was delivered on Monday, October 19, 2026, by Justice Judith N. Binjin-Eigege of the Federal High Court 2, Lokoja, after finding Jonah guilty of vandalizing armored transformer cables belonging to Kogi State Electricity Development Limited (KEDL) at Biraidu Community in Dekina Local Government Area.
The convict was prosecuted on charges bordering on the destruction of power distribution equipment and economic sabotage under existing federal laws.
Reacting to the ruling, the Kogi State Commandant of the NSCDC, Aletan Olumide Ebenezer, commended the Command’s Legal Unit, headed by DCC Ike F. Ugochukwu, alongside the investigation team for their thoroughness and professional handling of the prosecution.
Ebenezer stated that the court sentence sends a clear warning to criminal syndicates targeting public utilities and Critical National Assets and Infrastructure (CNAI) across the state.
“This judgment serves as a strong deterrent to individuals and groups involved in vandalizing public utilities. The command will sustain its intelligence-driven operations to rid Kogi State of vandals and economic saboteurs,” Ebenezer declared.
He urged community leaders and residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious movements around power installations and public infrastructure to nearest security agencies to safeguard public utilities.
