A renowned activist in Kogi State, Idris Miliki, has slammed Governor Yahaya Bello for failing to conduct local government elections before the expiration of the tenure of the immediate past Council Chairmen.
Miliki, who is the Executive Director, Conscience for Human Rights and Conflict Resolution, (CHRCR), made his position known on Thursday at a one-day post-2023 governorship election review meeting for political parties in Kogi State held in Lokoja.
The activist said Governor Bello failed the people of Kogi State by not allowing them elect their leaders from the grassroots, saying, “It is highly condemnable that up till now, the result of the Local Government election conducted three years ago has not been published by the Kogi State Independence Electoral Commission, (KOSIEC).
“The tenure of elected Local Government Chairmen expires today 14th December 2023. Since they are no longer in office, it means they will be handing over to DLGs. It is our right to elect who will lead us in our various Local Government and not imposition.
“We won’t forgive Governor Yahaya Bello for denying us the opportunity to elect Local Government Chairmen.
He failed me, failed the people of Kogi State and the entire Citizens despite being a beneficiary of the election”.
