The Kogi State House of Assembly has passed the Bill for the establishment of Kogi State University, Kabba and other matters connected 2023.
The House passed the Bill on Thursday during plenary, in the bid to establish the third state-owned university in Kogi.
Recall that the Bill which was approved by the State Executive Council on Monday, was transmitted through the Attorney General to the Assembly for consideration and approval.
ebirareporters.com reports that following the transmission, the bill went through rapid public hearings before passage.
The Bill has also emerged the first to be passed by the Rt. Hon. Aliyu Umar Yusuf’s led 8th Assembly since inauguration.
It would be signed into law by Governor Yahaya Bello.
The State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Hon. Wemi Jones, had stated that a University Law is one of the pre-requisite for the National University Commission (NUC) to recognise and approve any established university in Nigeria.
He hinted that the State government was working towards ensuring that before the end of the coming weeks, NUC would have given approval to the State University adding that the recently inaugurated implementation committee chaired by renowned Professor of English Language, Prof. Olu Obafemi was working alongside other stakeholders to speed up the process.
