Nigerian activist Deji Adeyanju has expressed displeasure over the spate of endorsement courtesy calls on Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State by celebrities and football stars.
Adeyanju who is from the state, reacted to the most recent of the visits by Manchester United forward, Odion Jude Ighalo.
He shared the picture of the Governor and Ighalo upon which he expressed his displeasure.
“May God judge all those collecting monies meant to pay Kogi Civil Servants and develop our state. Is this how to spend the billions of loans collected in the name of our state?
” The actions of these compromised celebrities is capable of encouraging massive Vote Buying in 2023. How can we blame those who sell their votes for N2k when even people who should know better are doing so?
“Yes I agree 100% that people have the right to freedom of association. So also, do armed robbers have the right to associate with one another. So, when we call you by the names of your new friends, don’t complain,” he stated.
The courtesy calls which are not unconnected to the Governor’s presidential ambition in 2023, also had Mikel Obi visiting the Governor about a week ago.
The Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Onogwu Muhammed who was at the meeting between the Governor and Ighalo, reported that Ighalo described Bello as a bridge builder whose leadership style is a source of hope to the Nigerian youth.
