Former Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Ibrahim Idris, popularly known as Ibro has passed away in the United Kingdom at the age of 77.
Born on April 6, 1949, Idris served as governor of Kogi State for nearly nine years, making him the longest-serving chief executive in the state’s history.
His tenure spanned two terms, which included a court-ordered rerun election in 2008 following the nullification of the 2007 governorship poll.
Prior to entering politics, Idris was a prominent businessman and industrialist, founding companies such as the Ibro Trading Company and the Ibrahim Furniture Factory in Sokoto.
During his administration, he executed several key infrastructure and social development projects across Kogi State, including the Greater Lokoja Water Scheme, the Lokoja International Market, the State Specialist Hospital, and the state government secretariat complex.
His government also implemented social welfare programs, including the payment of WAEC and NECO examination fees for secondary school students, bursaries for tertiary students, civil service housing schemes, and rural feeder road projects.
