One of the aspirants vying under the All Progressives Congress (APC) for Adavi/Okehi House of Representatives ticket, Mohammed Ahovi has claimed Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo asked him to run for the seat.
Ahovi who is a former Commissioner of Works in the state, resigned his position on March 31st to face his aspiration, even though he cited “personal reasons” in his resignation letter.
Declaring his intention on Saturday, Ahovi stated that Governor Ododo insisted he must go to the green chamber.
In his words, “Excellency who is my boss, said I must send you to the green chamber. The good he saw in me, God will not let me disappoint him.”
This revelation came barely two weeks after the Governor also stated he will be averse to imposition of candidates in the forthcoming elections in the state.
Governor Ododo stated this while addressing a delegation to his office, noting that he has no candidate in the general election.
The Governor said he was getting calls and messages from traditional rulers and stakeholders enjoining him not to impose anybody on them.
“I have two critical issues now at hand. One, when our royal fathers came, they made their positions. They have even written that we should not impose anybody on them. The letter is with me, I see that letter as indictment because I want peace. And now again, people are here.
“I want to promise that I am not going to impose on anybody. So, it’s not going to cause any crisis, we will continue to consult. At the appropriate time, all of us will come back her.”
Sources told ebirareporters.com that Ahovi’s statement at his declaration has indicted the Governor, and confirmed he is truly the candidate of the government he served.
The declaration has further stirred anger amongst other stakeholders of the party, other aspirants and their supporters.
Following Ahovi’s declaration, one of the contenders, Kabiru Onimisi Atta on Saturday evening resigned his membership of the party.
Atta before his resignation, had urged the party in the state against unfair imposition, warning that it would be met with consequences.
In his letter of resignation, he said, “after careful reflection and consultation, I have decided that my personal values and political views no longer align with the party’s current platform and direction. I believe it is in my best interest to discontinue my journey.”
The political terrain in the state, especially the central senatorial district, has already commenced witnessing twist and turns, as pundits predict the general elections could be marred by counter betrayals against imposed candidates for various positions.
