Why We Ignored NLC Two day Warning Strike in Kogi – TUC Reveals

NLC

The Kogi State Chairman of Trade Union Congress (TUC), Sule, Ahmed Tijani says the two day national warning strike is at the instance of Nigeria Labour Congress, (NLC), noting that a decision reached at her NEC meeting of TUC bared affiliates of TUC from participating in the warning strike.

This according to him is because the TUC is still dialoguing with the Federal Government on the appropriate palliatives to cushion the effects of the subsidy removal, and the dialogue is tending towards yielding a positive result.

Comrade Ahmed Tijani who spoke with journalists in Lokoja on Wednesday, on the two day warning strike explained that while the State Council of the state Trade Union Congress is well aware of the hardship and sufferings the workers are going through, they cannot, but obey the directives of their National Secretariat.

He noted however, that the TUC in Kogi State is in solidarity with their counterparts in the NLC.

The Labour Leader called on the state government under the leadership of His Excellency, Yahaya Adoza Bello to as a matter of urgency come up with a plan for cushioning and mitigating the effects of the hardship currently being faced by the people of Kogi State.

He called on the Governor to urgently give attention to the proposal submitted to his office through the Office of the Head of Service by the Organized Labour in the State.

Comrade Tijani appreciated the efforts of the state Head of Civil Service, Mrs. Hannah Odiyo for her tireless efforts towards advancing the welfare of workers.

He appealed to her to put in more efforts into advising the government on the need to urgently roll out measures to mitigate the sufferings of workers to forestall its negative impact on productivity.

The State Labour Leader commended workers in the state for their commitment to their duties despite the hardship and challenges, appreciating them for their patience despite the trying times they are passing through.

He vowed that the TUC will not stop engaging the government on the matters of workers welfare, admonishing them to remain in prayer for God’s intervention in the plight of the Kogi Workers.
