Olympics: Kogi’s Adijat Avosuahi Idris Loses to Ukrainian Opponent in Quarter Final

The hope to secure another medal for Nigeria may have been dashed as Adijat Avosuahi Idris was defeated by Ukraine’s Oksana Livach in the quarter-final of the freestyle wrestling women’s 50kg at the ongoing Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

The Ukrainian defeated Idris 10-0 by technical superiority power on Friday.

However, If Livach reaches the final, Idris may have a chance to fight for Bronze through the repechages.

The 19 year-old Idris from Kogi State, qualified Nigeria for the Olympics after a runner-up finish at the 2021 African & Oceania Olympic Qualification Tournament held in Hammamet, Tunisia.

In Tunisia, she made record performance of bouncing back from a down 4-0 to Debora Ture, to winning via a 15-4 by technical superiority. Idris then came into her fourth-round match with a 3-0 record, and faced Sarra Hamdi from Tunisia, who was also 3-0.
