To Probe or Not To Probe Ajaokuta Steel Complex

Ajaokuta Steel Company
My thoughts on the raging brohaha between the Ohis and Senator Natasha Akpoti uduaghan.

—-Just a plea for caution and self restrian.

By Otori Ozigi.

I have watched with keen interest and utmost utter dismay, the unnecessary controversy that has greeted the recent call for probe of Ajaokuta steel complex, by Senator Natasha Akpoti uduaghan and the attendant letter reportedly written by our highly revered Ohis on the very sensitive issue.

The Ohis have reportedly rejected the call for probe in their strongest voices and strength, they could muster.

This is indeed, a very dicy and delicate issue at hand.

There is need for absolute caution and introspection by our people on this torny topical issue in the community.

It goes without saying that the whole issue is a very sensitive one that we need to exercise caution in our various commentaries on the whole saga.

I have noticed that many of our people have started talking on the whole saga, even when they should have kept quiet.

I’m not here to talk about the correctness of the position taken by our symbols of Ebira traditional institutions or not.

I’m not qualified to reprimand our traditional rulers in public for their actions or inactions on any topical issues.

This is borne out of my highest regards for our traditional rulers and the rich cultural heritage they represent.

Our younger generation should be cautious in their propensity to hastily release audio voice notes on the whole issue,as some of them had already done.

It is not everything they should dabble into.

The issue at hand is a very sensitive and complex matter beyond their comprehension and scope.

Let our highly revered and respected elder statesmen and opinion stakeholders chart the way forward.

It behooves on our representatives in the National Assembly, led by Senator Natasha Akpoti uduaghan, to handle this matter with maturity and a deep sense of patriotism.

It is my candid advice for all concerned to seek ways to forge a common position on the merits and demerits of the vexed issue of the Probe of Ajaokuta steel complex.

There should be concensus building among stakeholders on issues that affect the whole Ebiraland.

We should be talking with one voice on contemporary issues in the community.

We should not be seen to be working at cross purposes.

On this particular issue of Ajaokuta steel complex, let the focus be on its timely completion.

All hands should be on deck to ensure that this time around all political encumbrances holding up the timely completion of the Ajaokuta steel complex, is dismantled under the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Senator Natasha Akpoti uduaghan is the most suited person to pursue the matter to a logical conclusion, in close collaboration with the Executive Governor of Kogi State Alhaji Ododo Ahmed Usman.

By now, I expected the two of them to close rank and forge a cordial relationship among themselves, irrespective of their party affiliations.

The time for politics is over.

The two of them should set good examples for their followers.

I will be the happiest person on earth if Senator Natasha Akpoti uduaghan can set the tone of a symbiotic relationship between the two of them, by paying a courtesy visit to Governor Ododo Ahmed Usman, in his office in Lokoja, the state capital.

That day would surely come in the nearest future.

Let there be peace, unity, progress and tranquility in Ebiraland.
