Contingents representing Kogi State in the ongoing 6th edition of National Youth Game has won two medals.
Team Kogi is in Ilorin, Kwara State, participating in seven sporting events, and has won silver in shooting, and bronze in table tennis mixed double.
Meanwhile, the Kogi State Commissioner for Youths and Sports Development, Hon. Idris Musa has expressed confidence that the state representatives will stand tall at the end of the National Youth Game.
Speaking to Sports Writers Association, (SWAN), in Ilorin, Kwara State shortly after Kogi won two medals, Musa noted that the feats Kogi has achieved now is a clear attestation that the state is a force to reckon with as it concerns sports.
He maintained that the state’s athlete have qualified for the next round in most of their sporting events, adding that more medals should be expected in the next coming days.
He reminded the state contingents that Governor Yahaya Bello who is a sports loving leader is fully ready to reward athletes that win laurel for the State, stressing that, with the latest developments in Ilorin, team Kogi is doing well and will surpass their previous records in the youth game.
” We are satisfied with the latest coming from Ilorin. Our team came here fully prepared and motivated. This has immediately translated into result. Kogites should expect more medals from our athletes,” he said.
As at 4:30pm, Delta State were leading the table with 30 gold, 10 silver, eight bronze medals, Edo (Nine gold, four silver, four bronze), FCT, ( Seven gold, six silver, seven bronze), Rivers, ( Seven gold, one silver and eleven bronze), Ondo, (Five gold, four silver and nine bronze.
Ogun, Bayelsa, Oyo, Plateau, and Kwara State made the top ten in the medals table.
