Kogi Vs EFCC Suit Continues on January 27th, State’s Anniversary

..

The legal battle between the Kogi State Government and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, will continue on Thursday, January 27th, 2022 being the 6th anniversary of Governor Yahaya Bello.

Recall that the Governor Yahaya Bello led government had dragged the EFCC before Kogi State High Court over allegations of operating a fixed deposit account with Sterling Bank Plc, wherein bailout fund in the tune to 20 billion naira was allegedly fixed.

The EFCC accused the government of fixing the fund which it said that Sterling Bank had returned to the coffers of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN after legal proceedings.

Consequently, in the suit before Justice J. Majebi, the government demanded N35 billion as damages against EFCC.

The government also got the court to issue an interim injuction restraining EFCC from doing anything investigating the account pending hearing and determination of the Motion on Notice for Interlocutory Injuction.

The Kogi State High Court adjourned the case till January 27,2022 to hear the application of the EFCC challenging the interim injunction which the court had granted the government.

While the state would be celebrating its anniversary, as well as Governor Bello’s 6th anniversary in government, the antigraft agency would also be challenging the interim injunction.
