Following the publication of the final list of candidates for the November 11th governorship election in Kogi State by Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Murtala Yakubu Ajaka has come under heavy criticisms.
ebirareporters.com reports that Ajaka has been criticized by political observers for presenting WAEC Certificate as his educational qualification.
The critics expressed worry over the educational abilities of the guber candidate to take on the tedious demands that come with governing the complexities of the state.
Ajaka who was described as the third fiddle in the contest, had the least educational submission amongst Ahmed Usman Ododo of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), and Dino Melaye of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Whilst pundits harped on the need for electorates to be emphatic about the qualifications and leadership prowess of the candidates, they stated that higher education as a requisite factor cannot be ruled out.
Meanwhile, supporters of the SDP candidate believe that his WAEC certificate presented to INEC, met the minimum constitutional requirement.
The candidate has become embattled, as his supporters had allegedly blocked and attacked the convoy of Governor Yahaya Bello in Lokoja, the state capital.
The encounter had followed with trading of blames, as the candidate claimed the Governor attempted assassinating him, calling on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to intervene.
According to the timetable of INEC, campaigns for the November 11th governorship election would begin on Wednesday June 14th, 2023.
