Senator Smart Adeyemi of Kogi West Senatorial District has between the period of 2019-2022 sponsored the highest number of bills compared to the eleven years of other lawmakers from Kogi State.
Adeyemi, according to a review carried out by Order Paper, has so far sponsored 22%of bills by Kogi lawmakers.
The twelve lawmakers comprising of Senators and House of Representatives from the state, sponsored a total of 54 bills in the first three years of the 9th National Assembly.
Here’s a breakdown of their individual performances:
SENATORS’ SCORECARD
Smart Adeyemi
First elected in 2007 to represent Kogi West Senatorial District in the National Assembly, Senator Adeyemi leads Kogi lawmakers in terms of bill sponsorship with twelve bills to his credit in three years.
Chair of the Senate Committee on the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), he was a member of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) before his defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC) on whose platform he was elected for a third term in November 2019. Senator Dino Melaye, the previous occupant of the seat was sacked from the Senate by the Court months after being sworn in 2019 for a second term.
He sought the party’s ticket for a fourth term but was unsuccessful and is considered by many as a strong contender for the State Governorship Elections later this year.
Jibrin Isah
The Senator representing Kogi East in the National Assembly has seven bills to his credit over the last three years. Prominent among his bills is ‘The Bill For Act To Establish Federal Eye Centre At Ochadamu, Kogi State. The banker-turned-politician is a first-term lawmaker and would be contesting the 2023 election for a return to the Chamber.
He is the current Vice Chairman of the Senate Committee on Finance.
Yakubu Oseni
A representative of Kogi Central Senatorial District at the Red Chamber, Yakubu has sponsored six bills so far.
Among these bills is a ‘Bill for an Act to establish the Solid Minerals Producing Areas Development Commission in the Federal Republic of Nigeria to address Environmental Devastation and for other connected matters thereto, 2021.” Chairman of the Senate Committee on ICT and Cyber Crimes, he is also a member of the APC.
Like Isa, Yakubu is also a first-term Senator but will, however, not be seeking re-election in 2023.
HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES’ SCORECARD
Ali Abdullahi Ibrahim
He is a representative of Ankpa/Omala/Olamaboro Federal Constituency at the Green Chamber,
Leading members of the House from his state in terms of bill sponsorship, the lawmaker has nine bills to his name.
One of the bills sponsored by the lawmaker is the Nigerian Constitution Studies (Inclusion in Schools Curriculum) Bill, 2019.
Yusuf Ahmed Tijani
Representing Okene/Ogori-Mangogo Federal Constituency at the National Assembly, he has sponsored six bills in the last three years.
The lawmakers representing Adavi/Okehi Federal Constituency and Ajaokuta Federal Constituency, respectively, Joseph Asuku Bello, and Lawal Muhammadu Idirisu, each sponsored four bills.
Similarly, Yusuf Ayo Tajudeen, representing Ijumu/ Kabba Bunu Federal Constituency and David Idris Zacharias, representing Idah/Igalamela Odolu/ Ibaji/Ofu Federal Constituency, each sponsored two bills in the period under review.
Rep. Tajudeen is on the list of lawmakers who will not be returning to the Green Chamber in June 2023; having secured the Kogi West Senatorial ticket of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) to contest the February 2023 elections.
Representing Yagba East/Yagba West/Mopa Muro Federal Constituency has just one bill to his name in three years.
A first-term lawmaker and Chairman of the House Committee on Customs and Excise is the only member of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) among the Kogi lawmakers.
In the period under review, only two lawmakers from the State sponsored zero bills in the House of Representatives are Isah Abdulkareem Usman representing Lokoja/Kogi Federal Constituency and Hassan Abdullahi representing Bassa/Dekina Federal Constituency.
