Kogi Assembly Suspends LG Chairman for over Alleged Misconduct

The Kogi State House of Assembly on Wednesday suspended the chairman of Ibaji Local Government Area, Emmanuel Onuche, over alleged gross misconduct.

The Speaker of the House, Aliyu Yusuf, announced the chairman’s suspension during the House plenary on Wednesday.

Mr Onuche was alleged to have undertaken some actions capable of tarnishing the image of the state government and was asked to step down for investigation into the allegations.

The LG boss has been directed to hand over the affairs of the council to his deputy. Victoria Okolo, pending the conclusion of investigations.

According to the lawmakers, an effective investigation into the allegations against the embattled chairman will not be possible if he remains in office.

Consequently, the speaker constituted a five-member committee headed by Bode Ogunmola, the member representing Ogori-Magongo, to investigate the allegations labelled against Mr Onuche.

The House gave the committee one month within to complete its assignment and report back to it necessary action.

The members of the committee include Ishaya Omotayo Adeleye (Ijumu), Asema Baba Haruna (Adavi), Anthony Ujah (Olamaboro), Bin-Ebaiya Shehu Tijani (Lokoja 1) and Muhammed Bello, who is to serve as clerk of the committee.

Meanwhile, three members of the Kogi State House of Assembly on Wednesday defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) during the plenary.

The defectors are Bode Ogunmola (PDP – Ogori/Magongo), Idowu Ibikunle (ADC – Yagba East), and Sunday Daku (PDP – Bassa).
