At a political roundtable held on Saturday in Kabba, the All Progressives Congress (APC) Youth Support Group in Kogi West has issued a seven-day ultimatum to the lawmaker representing Yagba Federal Constituency, Hon. Leke Abejide to defect to the APC.
The youths cited his popularity and developmental strides as crucial to the party’s future success, describing Abejide as a “fearless leader” and “harbinger of good representation,” praising his commitment to constituency development and people-oriented leadership.
Reading from a press statement, the group emphasized the need for the APC to attract credible and influential figures to bolster its electoral chances ahead of the 2027 general elections.
“It is the desire, plan and daily agenda of a serious political party to shop for acceptable and popular personalities to join their party in order to increase the electoral chances of the party,” the group stated.
Despite contesting and winning under the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Abejide has consistently outperformed candidates from larger parties, a record the APC youth believe can be a game-changer for their party if harnessed properly.
They warned that unless the APC moves swiftly to integrate leaders like Abejide, the party risks another poor outing in Yagba land, where it has struggled in recent elections.
“We have made the bold step and are therefore requesting that Elder Leke Abejide should join the APC. This request is predicated on the unprecedented good representation he has brought to his people, the unusual popularity he has amassed, and the style of politics of development he has introduced,” the statement added.
The group further called on party stakeholders to back their demand and reiterated their commitment to the growth of the APC and the entrenchment of democratic values in Kogi West.
