Gunmen on Friday night attacked the Divisional Police Headquarters in Adavi Local Government Area of Kogi State, killing three police officers under the “Quick Response Unit.”
The gunmen reportedly struck at about 12 midnight, and rained on the parade of the police officers who tried to repell them.
The attack came barely two months after gunmen suspected to be bandits attacked the Okene Area Command at Checkpoint in Okene. Both local governments in the central senatorial district of the state.
The Adavi Local Government Chairman, Joseph Omuya Salami has since confirmed the attack in a statement signed by his media assistant, Jamiu Habeeb.
“The council Boss promptly rushed to the police station around about 12:45:am Saturday 23rd April 2022 when the information got to him.
“The unknown gunmen came around a few minutes past 0:00hrs, engaged policemen, but were later repelled by the Galant Officers. Unfortunately, three police operatives paid the supreme price during the shootout.
“The council boss expressed concern over the ugly incident, and felt sorry for the lives that were lost in the course of duty.
“He condoled with Nigeria Police, the family of the deceased, and assured his readiness by making sure they are apprehended and brought to book.
“He further charged every concerned citizen and residents of Adavi to help provide intelligent information should in case they notice suspicious moves or see strange faces within the vicinity,” the statement said.
