But for God: Prof Tom Adaba Celebrates 80th Year of Grace 

Internationally respected broadcaster and media icon, Prof Tom Aaze Adaba on June 30th clocked his 80th year, the one he has tagged 80 years of grace.

To celebrate his birthday, Prof Adaba who is the Ohietohueyi of Ebiraland would be hosting a webinar session tagged “But for God,” discussing life, faith family, service and leadership.

Prof Adaba hails from Okene local Government Area of Kogi State. He attended Christ the King Catholic School, Okene 1947-1955. Junior Seminary, Okpala. Teachers College, Atangba 1956 – 1960. He proceeded to the United States of America for further studies between 1969 and 1971. He attended Ohio University, Indiana University and the University of Jos 1986-1989. He moved to the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) where he held several positions between 1974-1977.

He was a Senior Producer, Principal Producer, Head of Presentation and Training, Controller and Manager of Programmes. He was the Principal, Television College , Jos 1980-1987. Assistant Director, Programmes Headquarters 1989-1990. General Manager, NTA Makurdi 1990-1991. Deputy Director, Operations H/Q.

In 1992, upon the deregulation of broadcasting, he was appointed the first/pioneer Director General of the National Broadcasting Commission. He held the position in 1999. He served the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the International Community in various capacities. President, African Council for Communication Education 1988-1992. Leader, Nigerian Delegation, UNICEF sponsored workshop on Animation. Resource person, UNESCO workshop on Audio-Visual. Board member, Kwara Printing and Publishing Corporation.

Member, Information, African Council for Communication Education. Executive Board member, Plateau Publishing Company, Jos. President, Association of Catholic Mass Media Professionals, Jos Chapter. Head of Broadcast Operation, World Scouts Jamboree.

He is a member of several Professional bodies. Member, Nigeria Institute of Public Relations. Member, International Association of Mass Communication Education.

To his Credit are the following Books: Communication Training and Practise in Nigeria, 1987. Communication Industry in Nigeria , Crisis of Republication, 1988. He is a recipient of John F. Kennedy Graduate Programme Essay, Nigeria 1991-1992.

He is the Chairman/Chief Executive – Trim Communications and Public Relations firms. Managing Director/Chief Executive – Trim Travels and Tours. Director – DAAR Communications Limited – the proprietor of Raypower 100.5FM, African Independent Television (AIT) the First Global Satellite Broadcasting Organisation in the Federal Republic of Nigeria and RayPower 106.5FM. And recently, one of the illustrious sons of Ebira Land who brought Tao FM, the first privately owned radio in the land.

He is happily married with children. And four of the children are into broadcasting too. He loves music, photography, reading and tennis.
