Nigerians are dragging the Minister of Steel Development, Shuaibu Abubakar Audu following a post he made on his official Facebook platform, where he announced signing a $1bn Investment Memorandum of Understanding with Rashmi Metaliks in Kolkata, India.
The netizens have taken to his comments, tagging him an “MoU Minister” with several complaints of numerous signings without practical results since assumption of office.
Audu had shared the recent signing as a newly secured partnership expected to accelerate Nigeria’s transition from a raw minerals exporter to a value-adding industrial economy, strengthen Nigeria–India economic cooperation, and advance the country’s ambition to become a leading steel production hub in Africa.
He also described the agreement as a major step towards unlocking the full potential of Nigeria’s steel sector, adding that the partnership with Rashmi Metaliks reflects the increasing confidence of global investors in Nigeria’s economic reforms and the clear policy direction of the Federal Government.
However, many have noted their disappointments with the Minister from Kogi state, especially with regards to the Ajaokuta Steel Company and the generality of the steel sector.
