Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo has claimed he will be averse to imposition of candidates in the forthcoming elections in the state.
Governor Ododo stated this in a video making the rounds on social media, while addressing a delegation to his office, noting that he has no candidate in the general election.
The Governor said he has been getting calls and messages from traditional rulers and stakeholders enjoining him not to impose anybody on them.
“I have two critical issues now at hand. One, when our royal fathers came, they made their positions. They have even written that we should not impose anybody on them. The letter is with me, I see that letter as indictment because I want peace. And now again, people are here.
“I want to promise that I am not going to impose on anybody. So, it’s not going to cause any crisis, we will continue to consult. At the appropriate time, all of us will come back here. I’m not afraid of anybody. Everybody will come back here with the stakeholders. Then stakeholders will make their positions known before everybody. Then, we’ll ratify it because during election, I am not going to be in Yagba West. I am not going to be in Yagba Federal Constituency.
“I have been receiving a lot of calls, letters, interface most especially from Yagba Federal Constituency, Kogi West Senatorial District. I want to beg all of you to please whoever you are going to recommend, watch the person very well, the person should be of good character that will respect our traditional fathers, stakeholders and that will serve the people.
The governor advised everyone to continue with their consultations across boards toward putting the best candidates forward for a seamless election.
He said he would not appreciate a political situation that will negatively impact the reelection of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
“I don’t have any candidate as far as I’m concerned. My candidate is the candidate of the stakeholders,” the Governor assured.
