2 Dead as Tricycle ‘Driving against Traffic’ Hits Truck in Kogi

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) said two persons died in a truck-tricycle accident in Kogi on Sunday.

Stephen Dawulung, corps commander of the Kogi FRSC sector command, confirmed the incident to NAN.

He said the incident occurred around Magajia village along the Abuja-Lokoja highway at about 1.48 pm.

According to Dawulung, the collision happened as a tricycle — with two passengers — drove against the traffic and collided with an oncoming truck.

The FRSC boss said the two passengers in the tricycle died instantly.

“Aside from the violation of route exhibited by the tricyclist, both the tricycle and truck were also on speed, which made the accident unavoidable,” Dawulung said.

“Luckily, our personnel, who arrived at the scene within 10 minutes of the unfortunate incident, carried out recovery and rescue operations as well as traffic control to ensure free flow of traffic.”

The sector commander said relatives of the deceased have already taken the corpses away for burial.

Dawulung charged motorists to adhere to speed limits and other regulations to enhance their safety and avoid life wastage on the highways.

While commiserating with families of the victims, he reiterated the need for tricycle operators to desist from plying the highways in violation of the national road traffic regulations.
