Three Kogi Assembly Candidates Dump PDP

Candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Mopamuro, Ijumu and Yagba West state constituencies in the last House of Assembly elections in Kogi State have resigned their membership of the party.

Jones Daniel (Mopamuro), Olupeka Joseph (Ijumu) and Maiyaki Sunday (Yagba West), however, did not indicate their next political destination. In different letters addressed to the chairmen of the PDP in Ileteju/Origa Ward (Ijumu), Ward 03 (Mopamuro) and Odo-Eri/Okoto Ward (Yagba West), dated May 8, 2023, the trio communicated their decision to resign their membership to the ward executives “to pursue other interests,” while wishing the party well in its future activities.

Olupeka and Jones had lost their bids for election into the Kogi Assembly to All Progressives Congress (APC) candidates, while Maiyaki lost to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate.

Maiyaki, who noted that he had been an “ardent” member of the PDP from inception in 1999, said he decided to quit his membership due to impunity.

“The slogan of the party, ‘Power to the People’, is now power to a few. I wish the party well in its future endeavours,” he stated.
