A member of the House of Representatives, representing Lokoja/Kogi Federal Constituency, Danladi Aguye has responded to the nationwide call to ensure food sufficiency in the country.
Aguye made his contribution by distributing 600 bags of fertilisers to farmers in his constituency.
Speaking at the distribution ceremony in Lokoja on Sunday, the Chairman, Lokoja LGA, Comrade Abdullahi Adamu, who represented Aguye, said the gesture was a way to offer a helping hand to famers who do not have the funds to purchase fertilisers to boost their farm crops.
Aguye, through Adamu, said, “Today, I am inaugurating the distribution of one trailer of NPK fertiliser to farmers in my constituency.
“Each of the two Local Government Areas under the Constituency will get three hundred bags the fertiliser. About 160 cartons of herbicides and insecticides will also be distributed.
“I am calling on everyone who has the resources to bridge the gap, come together, and work in unity to benefit the ordinary man. The price of fertiliser is exorbitant for farmers, so this is my support to them in order to ensure food sufficiency in the state.
“I also want to urge all residents of the Constituency to continue to live in peace with one another so that our farmers will not face any form of challenges as they carry out their farming activities.”
Earlier, in his speech, a member representing Lokoja 1 State Constituency, Hon. Shehu Tijjani Ebaiya expressed gratitude to Aguye for complementing the efforts of the government to address the plights of the masses.
He called on other representatives and good-spirited individuals to support the developmental efforts of the state and the country.
“I am appealing that the fertiliser and other agricultural products get to the farmers for optimum production.
“My advice to the beneficiaries is that they should not sell the commodity but rather utilise it to better their living conditions and ensure food sufficiency,” the lawmaker added.
