Police Confirm Kidnapping of Passengers in Kogi

Kogi State Police Command, on Thursday, confirmed the kidnapping of two passengers on Wednesday in the Ijagbe community in Mopa-Muro Local Government Area of Kogi State.

It was gathered that the kidnappers hijacked a passenger bus and abducted all passengers on board, Tribune has reported.

According to sources, the bandits also kidnapped occupants of a newly-imported vehicle that was involved in an accident.

A source said: “There was a kidnap incident on the highway in Mopamuro Local Government Area on Wednesday morning. The name of the village is Ijagbe, in Mopa-Muro local government area of Kogi State.”

While the number of kidnapped persons could not be ascertained, a source said the occupants of the passenger bus were all taken, including those in the car. He also noted that the bandits had yet to establish contact with the families of the abducted persons.

He said: “They hijacked passengers of a passenger bus and another car, it was one of these ‘Tokunbo’ (imported fairly used) vehicles; the vehicle even had an accident and crashed into a tree but they still entered and picked the occupants.

“It happened on Wednesday morning. They’ve not contacted anyone but police and vigilantes are in the bush searching for the bandits and victims.”

However, the Kogi State Police Command Public Relations Officer, SP William Aya, confirmed the kidnapping of some persons.

Speaking on phone with Tribune Online, he said only two persons were kidnapped and not a whole passengers bus.

He noted that when the incident got to the command, the Commissioner of Police quickly drafted his men fully armed to the Ijagbe community where the incident happened.

He said that they were able to rescue some people while two persons were kidnapped before the arrival of his men at the scene.

He noted that it was not a bus that was attacked but two cars and the bandits kidnapped occupants of a newly-imported vehicle that was involved in an accident.

Another passenger that was injured in the car involved in an accident was rushed to the hospital for medical care.

He noted that his men are still in that village making effort to rescue the two persons that were kidnapped.
