A police corporal attached to the Ajaokuta Division under the Kogi State Police Command has allegedly shot dead his female colleague and partner, identified as Woman Corporal Grace, before taking his own life.
The incident occurred at approximately 9:00 p.m. on Friday, October 23, 2026, at the officer’s residential quarters in Ajaokuta.
According to preliminary accounts, the officer, identified as Corporal Amos, was assigned to station guard duty on Friday evening before leaving his post armed with an service AK-47 rifle.
He reportedly proceeded to the quarters of Woman Corporal Grace, where he fired multiple shots at her, inflicting severe bullet wounds to her shoulder, abdomen, and leg, before shooting himself with the same service weapon.
Circulating reports attribute the incident to an escalating domestic dispute and trust issues between the two officers, who had reportedly been in a relationship for several years.
Reports further indicate that previous interpersonal disputes between the officers had led to administrative intervention and counseling by the Divisional Crime Officer (DCO) to resolve their disagreements.
At the time of filing this report, official confirmation from the Kogi State Police Command regarding the recovery of the firearm and the circumstances surrounding the officer abandoning his duty post remained unavailable.
Efforts to reach the Police Public Relations Officer for the Kogi State Command, ASP Saliu Oyiza Afusat, were unsuccessful, as calls to her line went unanswered. An official police investigation into the double shooting is expected following formal confirmation.
