Over 50 Years of Failed Efforts in Ajaokuta, Says El-Rufai as Kaduna’s $600m Steel Plant Begins Operation 

The Government of Kaduna State has placed urgent vacancies for 12 professional positions as an integrated iron and steel plant being constructed in Kagarko, Kaduna State gears up for full operation. 

Announcing the job opportunities, Governor of the state, Nasir El-Rufai said the company is Nigeria’s first steel manufacturing plant coming on-stream in Kargako Local Government Area of the state.

He said the company debuts “more than 50 years of failed efforts in Ajaokuta.”

Ajaokuta steel plant, built in 1979 on 800 hectares of land, have remained moribund and crying for revival amidst litigations and promises through successive governments.

Ebira Reporters first got wind of the project in2019 when the former Minister of Mines and Steel Development, Abubakar Bwari, in his valedictory speech said two banks would provide $600 million funding for an integrated iron and steel plant being constructed in Kagarko, Kaduna State.

The plant being built by African Natural Resources and Mines Limited is an Indian-Nigerian project.

Bwari assured that President Muhammadu Buhari would be on ground to commission the project upon completion of the first phase.

According to El-Rufai, the Kaduna mining plant is situated over 500 hectares of land with an expected workforce of 2,000 workers made up of Nigerians and 300 expatriates.

“The plant is under construction and the first phase is about to be completed and will resume operations by January 2022,

“A massive national workforce is required and experienced hands are also required to support the Iron Ore Processing Project to run effectively. The iron will then be further processed into steel in Nigeria for the time. Be part of this historic feat by applying!”

The advertised urgent positions include Field Engineer, Mechanical and Electrical University Graduates, Shift Foreman, Boiler Field Operator, Turbine Field Operator, Shift Engineers, Fitter Mechanic.

Others are Electrical Shift Engineer, Instrumentation Technicians, Chemist and Planning Engineer.
