Against the decision of some Northern Governors of the All Progressives Congress to concede the next Presidential seat to the Southern part of the country, Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello has said the number of his supporters and delegates have increased due to the sympathy they have for him.
Bello said this while responding to questions on Channels TV’s programme, Politics Today with Seun Okinbaloye.
The Governor said the decision of his colleagues is not binding on him, as he banks on the favour of Nigerians to serve.
“At the end of it all, as we speak right now, majority of delegates not only from the North but even from the South as it may be called. I would refer to it as delegates of All Progressives Congress from across the country are already having a sympathy for Governor Yahaya Bello. And as I speak with you now, our numbers have swelled up,” he said.
Bello, confident, added that he has over 50% of delegates in the bag.
He said his interest is to flag the ticket of the party and defeat the candidate of the People’s Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar.
When asked if he can defeat Atiku, Bello said he had the numbers to win the elections.
“From the data we have, we don’t have less than 27 million Nigerians both young, women and even old ones who are ready to vote Governor Yahaya Bello when we secure the ticket of the APC, and they are from both North, South, Muslim, Christian, and from various backgrounds.
The Governor said over 16 million Nigerians recently trooped out in a rally to support his aspiration.
“Before 2pm on the day of general elections, we would be celebrating victory by the special grace of God when I secure the party’s ticket,” he stated.
