The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has confirmed two people lost their lives, while 19 others sustained injuries in an accident along the Lokoja-Okene road in Kogi State.
The State Sector Commander of the Kogi State Command Tenimu Etuku, who confirmed this in a statement to newsmen in Lokoja, noted the fatal accident occured on Tuesday.
Etuku stated that four of the 19 survivors sustained various degrees of injuries, ranging from bruises to fractures, and have been rushed to a nearby hospital for medical attention.
He attributed the cause of the accident to excessive speeding.
He said, “From the manifest, the ill-fated bus reportedly left Kano on Monday evening, heading to Auchi/Benin before the unfortunate incident that happened at 9:40 a.m. on Tuesday. The cause of the accident was excessive speeding.
“The FRSC personnel, who carried out the rescue, have deposited the two corpses in the morgue of the Kogi Specialist Hospital in Lokoja.”
Etuku urged motorists to drive carefully on the highways and adhere to traffic rules and regulations, especially during the Yuletide.
“Motorists or road users must be careful and adhere strictly to traffic rules and regulations to avoid such accidents and the wastage of precious lives. By doing so, they will greatly contribute to reducing the number of accidents and fatalities across the country,” he stated.
