Kogi Senator-elect Laments Deplorable Condition of Kabba-Omu Aran-Ilorin Highway

The Senator-elect for Kogi West Senatorial District, Mr. Sunday Steve Karimi, has expressed concern over the deplorable condition of Kabba Omu Aran-Ilorin Road that has robbed the people of his constituency bubbling economic activities in past 15 years.

Karimi disclosed this while speaking in a chat with journalists in Lokoja.

He said that the road between Kabba and Ilorin has been in bad shape for quite some time and needs the urgent attention of the federal government as part of measures to reconnect the communities along this axis with economic activities in Nigeria.

He explained that there is need for the federal government to recall all the contractors that have worked on the site to know what exactly the problems are and their possible solutions.

“One of our major problems is this road. Even before the election, I have been brainstorming on this what to do about the road and I know the level of my achievement.

“This road is between Kogi and Kwara States. The road has been in deplorable condition for a very long time. It was awarded in 2014 and was re-awarded for rehabilitation and reconstruction in 2016. Up till now, nothing has been achieved,” Karimi said.

He lamented that the contractors had in 2014 commenced the rehabilitation and reconstruction of the all-important but suddenly stopped at Ayetoro town.

The senator-elect pointed out under the present administration of President Muhammadu Buhari, the government has re-awarded the contract for this road but up till now nothing has been done on the road because government has not released money for the contractors.

According to him, the contractors abandoned the road because they were not properly mobilised.

The former two terms House of Representatives’ member explained that he would pursue legislation, programmes and senatorial interventions.

“When I say senatorial intervention, I mean constituency projects that will impact positively on my people,” he stressed.
