A member of the house of Representatives, Idris Salman has defected from the Africa Democratic Congress (ADC) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Tajudeen Abbas, speaker of the house, announced Salman’s defection on the floor of the green chamber on Tuesday.
Salman represents Ijumu/Kabba Bunu federal constituency of Kogi.
Salman said he took the decision to join the APC after consultations with members of his constituency.
However, Ali Isa, minority whip, protested the defection.
Citing Section 68 of the constitution which states the conditions under which a member of the senate or house of representatives shall vacate his/her seat, Isa said Salman did not present convincing evidence of crisis in his party.
The minority whip was ruled out of order by the speaker.
