The Kogi State Executive Council has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu over the ongoing reconstruction of the Abuja-Lokoja-Okene-Benin Highway, describing the project as a critical infrastructure intervention for trade and regional connectivity.
The commendation was contained in the resolutions of the State Executive Council (SEC) meeting held in Lokoja and presided over by Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo.
Governor Ododo praised the quality and pace of work on the interstate corridor, noting that its completion will unlock new economic opportunities for communities linking the North Central and South-South regions.
Briefing journalists after the meeting, key cabinet members highlighted several approvals and policy directives sanctioned by the council across major sectors:
The council approved the procurement of fertilizers, agro-chemicals, and farm inputs to support wet and dry season farming.
Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Timothy Ojoma, confirmed that preparations for the African Development Bank-supported Special Agro-Industrial Processing Zone (SAPZ) have advanced, alongside joint initiatives with federal ministries for poultry and egg production hubs across all 21 local government areas.
Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development, Taiye Abanika, announced that site clearing, perimeter fencing, and equipment mobilization have commenced for the Kogi International Airport project. Approvals were also granted for rural road interventions in Ibaji, Bassa, and Kabba-Bunu LGAs.
SEC also approved Phase Two construction and furnishing of student hostel accommodation and doctors’ quarters at the Confluence University of Science and Technology Teaching Hospital in Okene.
The council approved the renovation of the Kogi State Broadcasting Corporation (KSBC) headquarters in Lokoja, solar power installations at its Ocheja and Okene booster stations, and the institution of quarterly ministerial media briefings.
Approval was granted for the immediate rollout of the End Care Programme, designed to provide support and welfare benefits to over 5,000 indigent residents across the state.
