Kogi East: PDP Chieftain Abdullahi Declares for Senate

A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party in Kogi State, Muhammad Abdullahi, has formally declared his intention to contest the Kogi East senatorial seat in the 2027 general elections, setting the stage for a potentially keen contest in the district.

Abdullahi made the declaration in Abuja on Sunday, signalling his bid to unseat the incumbent senator, Jibrin Isah of the ruling All Progressives Congress, who is also preparing for a third-term run.

The Kogi East senatorial district, one of the state’s most politically active zones, has historically witnessed intense competition between major parties, particularly the PDP and APC. Abdullahi’s entry is expected to further heighten political activities in the build-up to the polls.

Addressing journalists shortly after his declaration, the PDP aspirant pledged to prioritise the welfare of his constituents and deliver measurable development if elected.

He said, “I am stepping forward to serve my people with sincerity, dedication and a clear vision for progress. Kogi East deserves quality representation at the Red Chamber, and I am committed to attracting meaningful development to our land.”

The Ankpa Local Government indigene said his ambition is driven by a long-standing commitment to service and community development, stressing that his record of grassroots interventions underscores his readiness for higher responsibility.

“For years, I have remained committed to touching lives across Kogi East. This is not just about politics; it is about service, sacrifice and sustainable development for our people,” Abdullahi stated.

Highlighting some of his past interventions, Abdullahi cited the provision of motorised boreholes to improve access to potable water, sponsorship of Muslim faithful for Hajj, scholarship schemes for tertiary students, and financial support for small-scale businesses.

“Our people deserve opportunities — access to education, empowerment for businesses and basic infrastructure that improves daily living. These are priorities I will continue to champion,” he added.

The grassroots politician also appealed to party faithful and voters across the senatorial district to support his aspiration, promising inclusive leadership and equitable distribution of resources.

“I am ready to serve with integrity and fairness. Together, we can build a stronger, more prosperous Kogi East,” he declared.

With his declaration, Abdullahi joins the growing list of aspirants positioning for the 2027 elections, as political realignments and early campaigns begin to take shape across the country.
