Kogi State Chief Judge, Hon. Justice Josiah Majebi, has commended Police details attached to the state judiciary saying that the operatives have been helpful in the administration of criminal justice as one of the critical stakeholders in the administration of justice in the state.
In a related development, Justice Majebi has assured the Federal Road Safety Corps of Judiciary’s readiness to continue partnering with her with the speedy trial of traffic offenders.
He made this assertion at the decoration of newly promoted officers of the Nigeria Police yesterday at the state command headquarters in Lokoja.
The CJ said a remarkable improvement has been witnessed in the adjudication process in the state even as he said that the Judiciary has been enjoying a harmonious and smooth working relationship with the Police and other security agencies
Describing personnel of the Police deployed to the judiciary as exceptional, he said from the Judges’ Protection Unit to prosecutors, especially the lawyers amongst them and other police details deployed to the courts, the Nigeria Police have made justice delivery in the state smoother.
“As the CJ of the state, I am proud of this command because all those working in our courts, either as securities or lawyers and prosecutors, I can attest to their efficiency and good performance in our courts. They are doing very well with the Judiciary to ensure justice delivery in the state,” he stated.
Commenting on the stewardship of Mr. Samson Boluwase who was elevated to the rank of ASP amongst the 14,052 officers promoted nationwide by the IGP according to the state CP, Mr. Onuoha Betrand, the CJ said Mr. Boluwase has proven to be knowledgeable and dedicated to his duties in the course of serving the judiciary adding that he has demonstrated both moral and ethical capacity to warrant his promotion
“I appreciate the CP because I have enjoyed the privilege of working with your people who are men of character and the ideal of police officers. I say that if all police are bad, I have ones that are good. So I am here in respect of someone with whom I have worked and I can say that you should please encourage him because he is an epitome of an ideal police officer and a true representative of the Nigeria Police.
“He has been with me for a year now and I told him to continue his good work because a day like this will come for his recognition” he said.
The CJ therefore urged all those elevated to take their new promotions as a national call for more responsibilities and tasks in view of the several challenges confronting the nation.
“This is a moment of joy because when you work and you are rewarded with a promotion, it means you have been called for more tasking assignments and responsibilities
“So I pray that the Lord that has elevated you with more responsibilities ahead will also accord you the strength to enable you to deliver to His glory and benefit of this state and the nation” he added.
Meanwhile, the CJ gave the assurance when he received Kogi’s new Sector Commander, Corps Commander Samuel Oyedeji, at the judiciary headquarters in Lokoja.
The commander had asked for dedicated court for trial of traffic offenders as he said the organization would no longer keep offenders’ confiscated vehicles beyond seven days of arrest without trial.
The CJ further stated that trial of traffic offenders would continue to be taken seriously as there were already specialized Magistrate’s Courts for that purpose while the Judiciary would always oblige whenever requested in line with the corps’ usual request for services of mobile courts during festive seasons when traffic are high.
Chief Route Commander, Ifeanyi Dike who is also the Sector Legal Officer that accompanied him appreciated the Judiciary for always being there for the organization while also hinting that the total number of 14 Commands in the state would as well mean the deployment of more trial judges to curb traffic offences and the menace of other road abuses in the state. This he said was in line with the corps’ establishment Act that empowers the CJ to do so. The Legal Officer praised Magistrates in the state for helping to sanitize roads in the state.
