How Failing Health Forced Former Kogi Assembly Dep. Speaker to Resign

The former Deputy Speaker of Kogi State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Enema Paul has tendered his resignation from the position.

Hon. Paul who represents Okura state constituency at the Assembly, resigned his position on Thursday, citing failing health as the reason.

While he did not cite the specific health challenge, the lawmaker disclosed the issue started in 2021 and has persisted despite treatment.

With the approval and support of Governor Yahaya Bello, the lawmaker noted he had traveled abroad for surgery, thanking the Governor for his support and prayers.

However, Paul said the illness has persisted and getting him increasingly weak by the day.
Despite ongoing treatment at a foreign hospital, Paul felt the need to prioritize his health and focus on recovery.

Therefore, he requested permission from the Assembly to travel abroad for a year for further medical attention and submitted his resignation letter, which was subsequently accepted.

Following Paul’s resignation, the House Clerk, Mr. Chogudo Sule Ahmed, called for nominations for a new Deputy Speaker. Hon. Abu Jibrin, representing the Ajaokuta constituency, nominated Hon. Ojoma Comfort Nwuchiola from Ibaji constituency, seconded by Hon. Seyi Bello from Kabba/Bunu.

Hon. Nwuchiola was subsequently sworn in as the new Deputy Speaker by the House Clerk.
