A youth group under the aegis of Kogi Unity Forum has rejected the stance of the Kogi State Government over the planned nationwide protest scheduled for August 1st, 2024.

Recall that the state government had on Saturday issued a warning against any attempt to disrupt the peace of the state through protests. The government also pledged support to the programmes and policies of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

However, the youth group following an emergency meeting in Lokoja, expressed their grievances regarding perceived impunity and mismanagement.

The Spokesperson of the Kogi Unity Forum, Comrade Ayo Adeyemi, emphasised that peaceful protest is a right that cannot be taken away by any government and called on Kogi State youths to disregard the government’s warning.

Adeyemi emphasised the importance of good governance and noted that Kogi State youths are eager to participate in the demand for better governance.

He expressed no surprise at the government’s stance, citing concerns about Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo’s past actions, including the use of his immunity to prevent the arrest of his predecessor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.

The forum called on the governor to facilitate Bello’s surrender to the EFCC and warned of protests at the Government House if their demands are not met.

“We are not going to succumb to any threat as we prepare for our lawful protest in the state,” Adeyemi said.
