FG Plans Construction of Flyover in Ganaja Flood Prone Area in Kogi

The Federal Government is considering measures to tackle the menace of flood along the Ganaja exis in Kogi state, Rep. Sani Egidi Abdulraheem has said.

Sani Egidi Abdulraheem (APC- Kogi) disclosed this to newsmen at the inauguration of SEA Youth Vanguard, marking Gov. Yahaya Bello’s 48th Birthday on Sunday in Lokoja.

The lawmaker, representing Ajaokuta Federal constituency, said proposals for the construction of a flyover on the flood prone area was before the Federal Government.

The Lawmaker lamented the hardships always encountered by motorists and commuters once there was a flood in Kogi State.

Abdulraheem said, “We are aware of the sufferings and hardship being encountered by motorists and commuters along Ganaja road in flooding periods and doing all we could to address it as quickly as possible.”

“The Federal Government and Kogi Government are awaiting the design from the federal work ministry for work to start there.

“This issue of flooding affecting roads is going to be included in the motion in the House for palliative in respect of the removal of oil subsidy.

“This is because blockages of roads by flooding is a serious challenge that should be addressed as well for the growth and development of Kogi State and Nigeria as a whole, ” he said.

He also said that with the removal of the petrol subsidy, Ajaokuta Steel Complex should be completed to help shore up the revenue base of the nation and open up employment opportunities for the teeming youths.
The lawmaker explained that the choice of June 18 for the inauguration of the vanguard was in commiseration of Gov Yahaya Bello’s birthday as a vibrant youth with laudable leadership qualities.

“In fact, the youth are preparing a bill to present to the State House of Assembly to set June 18 as “Kogi Youths Leadership Day” in celebration of Bello for his outstanding performance and leadership qualities.

“The governor has done the Nigerian youth proud as a youth; he has been able to transform Kogi State. We want to celebrate him every year on June 18, ” he said.

Earlier during the occasion, Kogi Chairman, National Youths Council, NYC, Usmam Samuel, described Gov Bello as “the pride of youths”, having done well in the economic growth and development of Kogi.

Also, Saidat Oziohu, Special Adviser, SA, to the governor on Grassroots, poured encomiums on Bello for the opportunities he opened to women to participate in politics in the state.

Youths from Youth Ambassadors and Hon SEA Vanguard for Ododo Yibo 2023, staged a walk for Bello from the State NUJ Secretariat to NTA roundabout, with placards of various inscriptions.
