Against circulated report by Punch Newspaper that the Director General of Energy Commission of Nigeria (ECN) was arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), has been debunked, as he reportedly presented himself to the agency upon investigation.
Dr. Abdullahi honored the invitation of the anti-graft agency over a petition against him alleging financial misconduct to the tune of N500 billion.
A family member who spoke with our correspondent on the condition of anonymity, noted that EFCC had invited him (Mustapha), and upon returning from his official work assignment to Texas, he deemed it fit to honour the investigation.
“Cooperating with lawful inquiries should not be misrepresented as guilt, stressing that investigations are a normal part of accountability in public service. As the head of an important agency of the government, there is no such thing as arresting him, because it is expected of them to honour the EFCC and other security agencies when called upon.
“This is not the first time the EFCC will invite people for investigation. It is only worrisome, the level of sensationalism that our media practitioners have resorted to in their publications. It is an investigation, and we look forward to the outcome of that process,” the source said.
