There was chaos on Saturday morning in Kabba town of Kogi State, following the killing of a young boy by a yet-to-be-identified police officer over N20 sachet water.
Eyewitness account revealed that the boy was alleged to have taken a sachet of pure water belonging to the policeman from the Policeman’s car to drink, after which an argument between the two led the boy to his untimely death.
ebirareporters.com learnt that the death of the boy led to a wide protest in Kabba town by angry youths in the area, even as the protesters barricaded the police station, chanting war songs while the Police made efforts to dispel the gathering with firing of tear gas.
The protest later escalated to the angry mobs setting the old police barrack on fire.
As at time of filing this report, a team of Mobile Policemen and men of the Nigerian Army have been deployed to Kabba town.
The situation has, however, been brought under control as calm has returned to the ancient town.
The Kogi State Commissioner of Police CP Edward Egbuka confirmed the latest development to journalists on Saturday afternoon.
He said the command is currently investigating the matter.
