The Kogi State chapter of the Labour Party (LP) has denied the existence of a parallel Exco of the party in the state, just as it dissociated itself from the governorship primaries conducted in the state.
Reacting in an interview with newsmen in Lokoja, the Acting Chairman of the Labour Party in Kogi State, Comrade Abdulsamad Amodu, described the action of the group as unfortunate while calling for swift intervention of security agencies.
According to him, the party has at no time dissolved its state executives or appointed any group to oversee its affairs following the death of the state chairman.
Comrade Amodu explained that rather, the LP in Kogi retained its existing executive in the state after the death of its chairman and that they have been in charge since then.
On the contrary, he explained that certificate was issued to the group to conduct a congress that would pave way for the smooth conduct a primary election for the party an action he lamented which they are yet to carry out.
He further stated that the group which was not known or recognized by the party had gone as far as conducting a primary election for the party governorship candidate, describing the action as illegal as it was carried out without the knowledge of the party.
“The primary election was conducted by this group of people without due congress which is illegal,” he added.
Speaking further, he said the matter has since been taken to court and that the defendants have refused to appear but sent in their attorneys on two occasions.
He called on the Inspector General of police and other related authorities to as a matter of urgency look into the activities of the “illegal group” in the interest of peace and growth of the nation’s democracy.
Comrade Amodu used the medium to implore supporters of the party and the public to disregard the election of any gubernatorial candidate by the purported Exco as their actions do not represent the position of the party.
