Troops Dismantle Kidnappers’ Hideout in Kogi Forest, Recover 1,000 Rounds of Ammunition

Troops of the Nigerian Army attached to the 21 Battalion Quick Reaction Force (QRF) have destroyed a suspected kidnappers’ camp in Edimogbo Forest, Igalamela/Odolu Local Government Area of Kogi State, recovering 1,000 rounds of live ammunition and operational supplies.

The development was contained in an official statement released on Monday, November 2, 2026, by the Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Colonel Appolonia Anele.

According to Colonel Anele, the offensive operation was executed following credible intelligence regarding the presence of an armed kidnapping syndicate establishing a base in the forest enclave.

As the military unit approached the camp, lookout operatives for the syndicate fired warning shots to alert others before fleeing into the dense forest terrain. Troops dismantled and set ablaze the camp and surrounding temporary structures.

A search of the location yielded 1,000 rounds of 7.62mm x 54 ammunition, seven ammunition bandoliers, six Daylong motorcycles, a mobile phone, a Glo internet modem, a jerrycan of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), shovels, a hand pump, and personal effects.

Colonel Anele stated that military exploitation patrols are ongoing across the Igalamela/Odolu forest axis to track down the fleeing suspects, while calling on members of the public to provide timely security intelligence to assist ongoing counter-insurgency and anti-kidnapping operations in the state.
