The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared its complete readiness to conduct the 2027 general elections in Kogi State, assuring political stakeholders of a peaceful, credible, and seamless process.
The Kogi State Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Dr. Shehu Wahab, made the declaration on Monday, October 26, 2026, during a strategic stakeholders’ meeting with political party leaders and candidates at the commission’s state headquarters in Lokoja.
Addressing the gathering, Wahab stated that the commission has put robust operational arrangements in place to maintain electoral integrity while cautioning candidates and their supporters against acts capable of disrupting public peace.
“As key players in the political ecosystem, your role goes beyond seeking public office; it extends to sustaining public confidence in our democratic process. Today, we want to address vital operational arrangements, security protocols and compliance directives essential for our upcoming activities and future engagements,” Wahab said.
The REC disclosed that the distribution of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) remains ongoing across INEC’s 21 local government area offices in the state, urging political parties and community leaders to actively mobilize voters to collect their cards.
He noted that the commission is executing intensive public awareness campaigns through radio jingles while conducting internal capacity-building workshops for electoral staff.
Wahab specified that the training modules cover critical operational systems, including the Collation Support and Verification System, Electoral Operations Support Centre, Voter Education, and Gender and Inclusivity protocols.
To address logistical challenges, the REC added that INEC has procured and deployed operational vehicles to the state headquarters and all 21 local government offices to ensure prompt deployment of personnel and materials during electoral exercises.
