Kogi Govt to Upgrade Radio Station in Okene

The Kogi State Government has commenced moves to upgrade Confluence Radio in Okene to a new state‑of‑the‑art broadcast facility.

The move, according to the State Commissioner for Information and Communications, Kingsley Fanwo, marked a major advancement in the administration’s commitment to strengthening information dissemination and enhancing government–citizen engagement across the state.

During an inspection visit to the project site, Fanwo stated that the new structure will serve as a permanent operational base for Kogi State Broadcasting Corporation personnel and significantly improve broadcast coverage across Kogi Central and adjoining communities.

Fanwo explained that the project is part of a broader communication infrastructure upgrade, which includes the planned remodeling of existing booster stations in Ocheja and Egbe.

He noted that Okene‑Eba previously lacked a permanent broadcast facility, making this development both strategic and overdue. “We are building a modern, fully equipped office for our staff so that from here we can effectively reach all parts of Kogi Central,” he said.

“This facility will meet contemporary standards and support our long‑term communication objectives.”

The Commissioner expressed profound appreciation to the Governor of Kogi State for his unwavering support, particularly in the ongoing enhancement of radio transmission infrastructure.

He emphasized that radio remains the most trusted and widely accessed medium among residents. “Radio remains the most reliable channel for mobilizing, sensitizing, and galvanizing our people,” he noted. “Strengthening this platform is essential to fulfilling our mandate.”

He also acknowledged that the Okene-eba station recently faced challenges with radio transmission due to equipment failures and the high cost of maintaining outdated devices. Some transmission gadgets had repeatedly broken down, resulting in temporary service disruptions.

He, however, assured the public that both immediate repairs and long‑term technical solutions are currently being implemented.

The Commissioner reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to ensuring that residents across Kogi State continue to receive timely, accurate, and reliable information, in line with the government’s broader development
