The Forum of Ward Chairmen of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kabba/Bunu Local Government Area of Kogi State has passed a unanimous vote of no confidence on Senator Sunday Karimi, who represents Kogi West Senatorial District, over alleged actions they say could destabilise the party.
In a press statement issued on Thursday, the 15-member forum accused the senator of undermining party leadership and engaging in activities they described as anti-party across the state chapter.
The forum alleged that Senator Karimi sponsored and financed certain groups reportedly led by an individual identified as Ozovehe, which they claimed have been involved in spreading misinformation and criticising party leadership.
“These actions have the capacity to erode public confidence in the APC and create disaffection within the party,” the statement said.
The ward chairmen also accused the senator of sponsoring media campaigns against the party’s state structure and promoting narratives they believe could create divisions between the federal and state governments.
They further claimed that more than two years after assuming office, Senator Karimi has yet to establish a functional constituency office, a development they said has limited constituents’ access to representation.
The forum also alleged that the senator maintains links with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), his former political platform, describing it as a possible alternative ahead of the 2027 general elections.
According to the ward chairmen, groups they linked to the senator have been critical of Kogi State Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo and other party leaders, while accusing Karimi of distancing himself from the grassroots structures that supported his 2023 election victory.
Following deliberations, the forum resolved to pass a vote of no confidence on the senator, withdraw recognition and support for him as a candidate in the 2027 general elections, and urge the APC national leadership to take disciplinary action to safeguard party unity.
The forum reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening the APC at the grassroots level and upholding the party’s principles of discipline, loyalty and progressive governance.
Meanwhile, a rights activist, Comrade Idris Miliki Abdul, has cautioned against actions that could create tension within Kogi West Senatorial District.
Reacting to the vote of no confidence passed on Senator Karimi by the ward chairmen in Kabba/Bunu, Miliki described the development as a signal that should be handled carefully.
He noted that many of the individuals involved in the action were among those who supported the senator’s emergence.
Miliki also warned that decisions regarding representation in the district ahead of the 2027 elections should be determined by the people of Kogi West.
“We are mature enough to determine who represents the people of the West Senatorial District. This early development is setting a precedent that should be carefully managed,” he said.
