As Kogi State residents go to the polls on Saturday to elect the next governor of the state, the Igbo community in the state has endorsed the candidacy of Alhaji Usman Ododo, the gubernatorial candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The Igbo Community Association (ICA) in the state made the disclosure during a meeting with Governor Yahaya Bello and Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo on Monday during which it pledged support for the APC candidate.
The meeting began with remarks from Hon. Moses Okezie-Okafor, the coordinator of Igbo Groups Backing Ododo (IGBO), who expressed gratitude for the administration’s consistent friendship to the Igbo community.
He highlighted the achievements of Governor Bello’s administration and emphasized that Ndigbo in Kogi State are beneficiaries of the accomplishments, noting that the APC candidate’s slogan of ‘Continuity and Consolidation’ was founded on solid realities.
Chief Sunday Nwachukwu, President of ICA in Lokoja who led the delegation confirmed that the Igbo community is a witness to the government’s great efforts in good governance across the state and expressed their appreciation.
He stressed their readiness to support a candidate who will maintain the momentum set by the Governor, pointing out that by his track records, Alhaji Usman Ododo has proved to be that candidate.
Other speakers in the delegation, the youth and women leaders corroborated what the previous speakers said.
Alhaji Ododo, in response, highlighted his long-standing friendship with Ndigbo and promised to sustain and enhance the administration’s accomplishments if elected.
He assured the Igbo leaders of continued delivery of democratic benefits to Kogi State and increased involvement of Ndigbo in the government.
Barr. Deedat Ozigis, Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, who represented Governor Bello, responded positively to the Igbo community’s requests, praising their contributions to the state’s progress.
He urged them to vote for Ododo in the upcoming gubernatorial polls on November 11.
The meeting concluded with the delegation presenting a thank-you gift to the Governor on behalf of Ndigbo in Kogi State.
